Modin, 35, posted 11 points
(five goals, six assists) in 44 games, while splitting time between the
Columbus Blue Jackets and Los Angeles Kings last season. The 6-4,
220-pound left wing tallied points in back-to-back games on two
occasions, which included a three-point stretch (two goals, one assist)
from March 6 to March 8. Modin also added four points (three goals, one
assist) in six playoff games with the Kings.

2005-06 Rocket Richard Trophy after scoring a League-leading 56
goals in the first post-lockout season. Since then, he has seen his
goal production decline, to 37, 23, 12 and five goals in each of the
past four seasons.
SHARKS SIGN NIEMI: 1 YR/$2M
Niemi, who turned 27 on Aug. 29,
helped lead the Chicago Blackhawks to the Stanley Cup last season,
posting a 16-6 mark in 22 Stanley Cup Playoff games, a 2.63
goals-against average and a .910 save percentage along with two
shutouts.
STEWART SIGNS WITH
AVALANCHE:

Stewart, 22, led Colorado with 28
goals and finished second on the team in scoring with 64 points in 77
games last season. Stewart, who scored 25 of his 28 goals at even
strength, also paced the Avalanche in both game-winning goals (5) and
shots (221). The Toronto native was +4 for the season and added 100 hits
and 73 penalty minutes. Stewart went on to lead the Avalanche with three
goals (3g/0a) in six playoff games.
